After a great Fourth of July week­end, I returned home to a whole water­melon sit­ting on my kitchen counter. It had been there, left­over from a sup­per club din­ner, star­ing me in the face for a few weeks and I have been stumped as to what to do with it. Still full from a week­end of deli­cious BBQ’s, I was crav­ing some­thing very light and refresh­ing. That’s when I thought of gaz­pa­cho. Read more:

This post is going up in honor of the lovely print of the above photo that I just received from my friend, Corey. A few months ago after a cold, rainy Light The Night walk over the Brook­lyn Bridge, I stopped off at Corey’s place to warm up and to my delight, to have some unusual and deli­cious snacks.  Corey had recently become addicted to juic­ing so I was excited when our con­ver­sa­tion was sud­denly drowned out by the sound of his beloved juice machine.

My most excit­ing dis­cov­ery in the camp gar­den was green toma­toes! I have been want­ing to pickle green toma­toes and since the baby ones at my local mar­ket have been a bit out of my price range, I was excited to get tons of them for free!

Rooftop Farms Pickles

I feel very for­tu­nate to live just a few blocks away from one of the best spots in Brook­lyn: Rooftop Farms. I started hear­ing and read­ing about Rooftop Farms when I moved to the neigh­bor­hood almost a year ago.  It wasn’t until this past week­end, how­ever, that I finally took some time to head over and buy some pro­duce at their Sun­day mar­ket.
