When my mom and I hand made quinoa ravioli a few weeks ago, I wanted to top it with something light to let the homemade flavors and textures shine. So, we decided to make a little sage, shallot and butter sauce. Unfortunately, not used to the electric stove that my mom has at home, I wound up burning the shallots a bit, but I still enjoyed the slightly crisp, delicious taste. The flavors screamed winter and I wanted to try making this sauce again when I returned home to 32 degree Brooklyn. Continue reading “Quinoa Pasta With Sage Butter, Brussels Sprouts & Shallots” »

Yesterday I read this article about potatoes, and specifically purple potatoes, lowering blood pressure and boosting your overall health. Yesterday, I was also craving pizza. Naturally, the first thing that came to mind was the recent potato pizza I had made. So, with my mind set on a purple and sweet potato pizza for dinner, I wandered through the farmers market after work and finally at the very last stand, found some beautiful purple potatoes. The combination of the lemon and parmesan with these almost gives them the flavor of a Caesar salad- minus the anchovy factor. I love how many different ways there are to prepare brussels sprouts and this might be one of my new favorite recipes.

If there is one junk food I can’t resist, it’s salt and vinegar potato chips. In general, my palette likes a big punch when it comes to flavor and that crunch and tang sealed in an airtight bag is something I will probably never stop craving. This is why I was thrilled the night I ordered dinner at a local restaurant and it came with a side of salt and vinegar brussels sprouts.

I’ve mentioned these brussels sprouts before but they were hidden in a large dinner party post and I thought they deserved their own show, especially since they’re a great side dish for the upcoming holidays.
